Notes
training_cutoff is the 70B's (December 2023); the 8B's pre-training data has a cutoff of March 2023. No technical paper for this April 2024 release; 'The Llama 3 Herd of Models' states that all its results are for the Llama 3.1 models, so its contamination analysis is recorded under llama-3.1. Third-party signal on ARC-Challenge (AI2 Reasoning Challenge, Challenge Set) (indirect, not shown as a cell): Sample-specific contamination detected on ARC-Challenge (p < 0.5%, estimated effect 3-8%). Third-party signal on GSM8K (Grade School Math 8K) (indirect, not shown as a cell): Accuracy 6.2 points lower on GSM1k than on GSM8K (p <= 0.003). A GSM8K-GSM1k gap is evidence of overfitting to GSM8K, not proof that GSM8K test items were in the training data; the authors attribute it partly to partial memorisation (correlation with GSM8K log-likelihood) and partly to other causes. Third-party signal on GSM8K (Grade School Math 8K) (indirect, not shown as a cell): Accuracy 5.4 points lower on GSM1k than on GSM8K (p <= 0.003). A GSM8K-GSM1k gap is evidence of overfitting to GSM8K, not proof that GSM8K test items were in the training data; the authors attribute it partly to partial memorisation (correlation with GSM8K log-likelihood) and partly to other causes.
